Tom Dooley, who steps down from his post as the North West Centre’s Chairman at the upcoming AGM after 40 years in the role, was honoured at the Annual BRSCC NW Dinner Dance which was staged on Saturday, 25th February at the Park Royal Hotel, Stretton when drivers, officials and marshals met to celebrate the 2016 season. Tom was on hand helping to prepare for the inaugural meeting at Oulton Park in 1953. He fenced off the spectator enclosures before acting as a crowd steward when the gates opened. As he didn’t even have a cow to deal with he re-allocated himself to the paddock at lunchtime! Having served on the inaugural BRSCC North West Committee when the Centre was established the following year, Tom stepped forward to take on the mantle of Chairman when the position became vacant in the late ‘70s and built up a wealth of experience in arranging race meetings at Oulton Park and, latterly, Anglesey circuits. His knowledge will be sorely missed. The winners of the 2016 Avon Tyres Formula Ford 1600 Championships and Lee Bowron XR Challenge were also honoured.
